Dredd says a Dredd sequel is still a possibility

So we all loved Dredd 3D, right? Of course we did. In fact, it is one of the best comic book adaptations ever. If you still haven’t seen it, WHY THE HELL NOT!!?? I absolutely loved the film, and you can read my review of it here.

So Karl Urban, who played Dredd in the film, is on the press circuit for Star Trek Into Darkness, in which he reprises the role of Bones. And he has been fielding questions about a Dredd sequel. During a phone interview with Collider, Urban offered the following:

“Interestingly enough, I did have breakfast with Alex Garland this morning. It’s not off the agenda. Clearly everyone has woken up to the fact that an audience has found this movie and loves it. It’s entirely possible, and if people want to see another installment then they should be vocal about that, because, it can happen. The power of fandom can resurrect projects. In fact, that’s what happened with Star Trek. They weren’t going to do a third season until fans did a letter writing campaign and they continued that series.”

Does this mean we should start writing letters to Lionsgate? I don’t think so. I think that the fact that people are still asking about the film, and also made it the number one Blu-Ray release the week it dropped, has shown that there is an interested and rabid fanbase in place for a sequel. Sure, it didn’t blow up the box office, but with people shelling out the cash for the DVD’s and Blu-Ray’s, they have put their money where their mouth is. Can anyone say Kickstarter for the followup? I sure as hell know I’d drop some cash for that . . .

Batman fights Deathstroke in first teaser trailer for Batman: Arkham Origins

I absolutely love Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. Not only are they the best Batman video games ever, they are also some of the best video games crafted ever. So when it was announced that the next game in the series, Batman: Arkham Origins, was going to be released this fall, I went gaga. It wasn’t until today that the first teaser trailer was released, though. It is short and sweet but certainly has my appetite whetted. Have a look at it here:

Batman: Arkham Origins releases for Xbox 360, PS3, and the Wii U on October 25, 2013. Also, the full trailer for the title will be released on May 20, 2013. I will have it up as soon as it drops!

Here we have the first full trailer for the upcoming Riddick, once again starring Vin Diesel as the notorious anti-hero. I have to say, it looks amazing. I am a hug fan of Pitch Black and liked The Chronicles of Riddick quite a bit. I really like the character of Riddick. This appears to be closer in tone to Pitch Black than Chronicles, though. Here is the full synopsis of the film:

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty. The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Here we have the trailer for the upcoming film Ender’s Game, based on the novel by Orson Scott Card.

I have read the book, but it has been years ago and I remember nothing about it. Of course, the trailer actually looks pretty good. It’s always nice to see Harrison Ford on the big screen. Have a look at the trailer here:

In Uh Oh news of the day . . .The Gremlins reboot is moving forward

Ok, see we have known for awhile that Warner Bros. wants to relaunch their Gremlins franchise. There have been rumors that it would be a sequel and there were rumors it would be a remake and rumors of a reboot. Now it seems that it is going to be a remake. This news comes from Bloody Disgusting.

While I don’t think the idea of a Gremlins remake is a completely terrible idea, it really needs to be done right. And I have a sinking suspicion that it will not be. In the first bad news category, Warner Bros. has tapped Seth Grahame-Smith to produce the film. You may know him as the author of such works as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies or Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Then again, you may also know him as the writer of the films Dark Shadows and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. While the Lincoln novel is brilliant, the movie was a stinker. And word is that Dark Shadows was just not good. So, this news gives me the heebie jeebies.

It is not known who the writer or director of the project will be, but lets hope that Grahame-Smith is just the producer and not the writer.

I can’t help but see Warner Bros. turning this into a kid friendly CGI fest, completely forgetting what made the original film so charming and unforgettable. While I don’t feel this needs to be remade, if they did it right, I could be on board. So far, I feel they are messing it up . . .

Another new Man of Steel poster and TV spot

Yep, still not super impressed by the marketing of this film. I have yet to see any of the Man of Steel posters and be blown away. I have yet to see one that I want to buy and frame and hang on my wall. So, today we have another poster. It’s not bad, just still doesn’t have that wow factor needed. I suppose we will have to wait for the inevitable sequel to get a good poster . . .

And here is another TV spot, #5. Have a look. Despite the terrible posters, the trailers and TV spots have me wanting to see this film more than any other this summer.

First promo for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Here we have the first promo for the upcoming ABC series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The series focuses on the global law enforcement agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., which was introduced in Phase One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. (Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and The Avengers.) The series revolves around Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), who had seemingly died in The Avengers.

The first episode is directed by Joss Whedon, the director of The Avengers and the overseer of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe Phase Two, which kicked off with Iron Man 3.

As far as I know, there is no premier date for the series, as of yet. Have a look at the promo below:

Since first seeing him in Highlander when I was just a wee laddie, I have been a fan of Clancy Brown. With the utterance of the phrase “It’s better to burn out than to fade away”, the man has been on my radar. I don’t think I really saw him again until Pet Sematary Two, and instantly recognized him. His performances continue to enrapture me. While he usually plays the tough guy, finding out that he voiced Mr. Krabs on SpongeBob SquarePants has me believing he has a great comedic streak in him. (Yes, I just found out that he voiced Mr. Krabs. I never watched the show until recently when my 2 1/2 year old started liking it.)

Here’s hoping Mr. Brown continues landing big roles and keeps gracing us with his presence on the big screen. His work in The Shawshank Redemption was a revelation.

Here we have some photos of the antagonists from Marc Webb’s upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The first film was quite the surprise for me. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I didn’t expect to.

Well, here are some photos of Jamie Foxx who is splaying Electro, Paul Giamotti who is playing The Rhino, and Dane Dehaan who is playing Harry Osbourne. These photos all appear to be before the transformations into the super powered villains. Have a look at them here. I am liking what I am seeing, honestly. What do you think?

UPDATE-New Man of Steel poster and TV spot #4

Here is the new poster for Man of Steel, which you should be seeing pop up in theaters soon, if not already. I think the marketing of this film has been hit and miss. None of the posters, this one included, have instilled me with the sense of awe needed for a Superman film. The first two teaser trailers for the film were not good, but the third extended trailer was fantastic. So, here we have the third poster for the film. Have a look and let me know what you think.
