Well, it seems that they aren’t just remaking ’80′s horror flicks. Now they are tapping into the 2000′s as well. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Tom Cruise is attached to star in a reboot of the Van Helsing film. I would say franchise, but it never made it past one film. Having seen the film, that is no surprise at all. It was a truly horrible film.
I do think Van Helsing was a great idea for a film, but was handled very, very poorly. Stephen Sommers (The Mummy, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) dropped the ball, but not as bad as he did on G. I. Joe. At least Van Helsing was almost watchable . . .unlike G. I. Joe, which I shut off.
Hopefully, this will materialize sooner rather than later. I like Tom Cruise and would love to see his take on the character. Then again, I would love to see Hugh Jackman tackle the character again. I really like Jackman as well. I think they should just release Solomon Kane (the style of Van Helsing was a direct rip off of Kane), instead. That is a pretty bad ass flick.
