So, how many of you out there remember ‘Maniac Cop‘? I can remember seeing it in the ’80′s but honestly can’t remember anything more than that I’ve seen it. I can’t recall the plot (I’m sure it has to do with a cop who is a maniac, probably all funky looking and killing people).
Yup, there he is. Pretty funky lookin’.
Anyway, it seems that Nicolas Winding Refn, director of Drive (brilliant), Valhalla Rising (haven’t seen it yet), and Bronson (crazy film) has signed on as a producer, and might direct a prequel to Maniac Cop. A prequel? Why not just remake it like Hollywood is keen to do nowadays?
“It’s going to be more a prequel than anything else, I am really excited to come back to this world especially since Nick is going to be a part of it” said Cohen. “Nick (Winding Refn) has been talking to us about it for a while now and I had an idea that would work so we’re going to do it.” Cohen said that the film will still maintain the noir-ish comic book feel of the first three films but “with a bigger budget than the others have had.”
What!? A bigger budget!? How!? Look at that brilliant makeup work above! That had to have cost 10′s of dollars! Ok, sorry, sarcasm doesn’t translate well to the written word. Anyway, there is no word on a director, production date, release date or any of that jazz. It would be interesting is Refn would actually direct this, and would certainly make it much more appealing. Especially if they could get The Chin, Bruce Campbell, to be in this like he was in the original.
