Well, it seems that there is a reboot of The Mummy franchise headed our way. Variety is reporting that Jon Spaihts has been hired to write the reboot. Spaihts had this to say:
I see it as the sort of opportunity I had with PROMETHEUS: to go back to a franchise’s roots in dark, scary source material, and simultaneously open it up to an epic scale we haven’t seen before
‘The Darkest Hour’ and the upcoming ‘Prometheus’ are his only produced credits to date.
While I wasn’t the biggest fan of The Mummy, I did thoroughly enjoy The Mummy Returns. Let’s just forget about The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and The Scorpion King spin offs, shall we? God, those were horrible . . .*shudders*.
What do you think? Is this a good idea? While I think they could certainly do better with the franchise, I would really like them to continue the action/adventure style. I could also go with them going straight horror, but we have enough horror films nowadays, and not enough good action/adventure.

I did like The Mummy Returns. Felt, to me, like a live action Final Fantasy film. Other than that one, not a big fan.
